Regenerative Agriculture: Building a Sustainable Future

Meet Becca Hesketh: Member of our Farmer Advisory Board and Regenerative Agriculture Coach on The Sustainability Accelerator Programme.

“Through the Sustainability Accelerator I’ve seen that industry professionals are deeply invested - both personally and professionally - in transforming the food system. This commitment is something to celebrate. The diversity of skillsets, experiences and expertise among participants created a space for dynamic conversations, sparking thought-provoking questions and innovative ideas.”

Trends in Regenerative Practices

In recent years, there has been a noticeable surge of interest in regenerative farming practices. Encouragement from within the industry and the growing availability of resources have played a crucial role in driving this movement. After attending the Oxford Real Farming Conference (ORFC), it’s clear that this is an exciting time for regenerative agriculture. However, as a farmer, I’m acutely aware of the short-term challenges facing the sector, particularly the financial pressures many of us are navigating.

The ORFC highlighted both the significant progress made and the immense journey still ahead. We need to reach more farmers with discussions about regenerative practices and build confidence among those already on this path. Short-term challenges, such as precarious farm finances, threaten to derail progress.

Industry professionals and companies must play a pivotal role in supporting the transition through this fragile period – which is why upskilling is so important across all functions and all food and drink businesses.

The Role of the Supply Chain

The supply chain has a critical responsibility to support knowledge-sharing, build confidence and incentivise change. By focusing on de-risking and supporting the adoption of regenerative systems, the industry can ensure this movement’s momentum continues. Without this next level of support, we risk falling short of our goals for a more sustainable and resilient food system.

Your Expertise in Action

Through my masterclass, I help businesses navigate the realities of UK farming and the urgent need for change. We explore the ecological and business imperatives driving the transition to regenerative agriculture, including:

  • The transformative potential of healthy soil

  • The evolving role of animals in regenerative systems

  • The mindset shifts necessary to embrace sustainable practices

These sessions equip participants with actionable insights to bring back to their teams, fostering the conversations needed to support farmers in adopting regenerative agriculture.

Recent Developments

If you missed it, check out some of the highlights from the Oxford Real Farming Conference (including the importance of agrobiodiversity and soil health in building resilient food systems) and the announcements made at the Oxford Farming Conference, including the speech from Steve Reed, Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.
