A Farmers Perspective: Jack Pearce on What Makes the Accelerator so Powerful

Nowhere else can you have these conversations with such a diverse group of stakeholders, all open to sharing, learning and moving forward together.

Farmers in the room are an essential part of that. This goes beyond learning—it’s about challenging outdated models, building real collaboration across the entire supply chain and creating space for truly groundbreaking solutions. Part of our commitment to driving positive change in the food industry is always ensuring a farmer's voice is in the room.

Jack Pearce joined our Healthy Sustainable Diets Accelerator alongside participants from Tesco, Warburtons, Amazon Fresh, Nestlé and Greencore, diving into insights on climate-smart NPD, regenerative food systems and more key topics. Hear straight from Jack about his experience on the programme and the opportunities it has unlocked for him.

What was your biggest takeaway or most useful learning?

“The biggest takeaway came from the mindset shift to thinking about these challenges in a more systemic way rather than through a reductionist prism. The sessions really helped me open my mind and, in some places, changed the way I approached the work I am doing on these subjects within my business.”

Climate and health proof points: What will you start doing differently since finishing the Accelerator programme?

“Putting less emphasis on individual actions and more focus on shaping our approach can link into the food system to maximise our impact. Whether this is thinking about our crop rotations or how we approach NPD projects my focus is on linking our activity end to end.”

Would you recommend the programme to others working in food?

“100%! Even if you think you have a handle on a subject (in my case regenerative farming) the sessions will challenge your mindset as the session leaders often are voices you don’t hear in your day-to-day echo chamber!”

What advice would you offer to colleagues to help their work shape a better food future?

“Be open and flexible in your beliefs, this sometimes can be challenging as it means going back and reviewing and possibly changing your own strategy or business stance. In other areas of a business this may be seen as a negative, but I believe within sustainability and food system change it is a sign of strength.”

How have you found being part of the FFM community?

“Great, aside of the knowledge and upskilling - it has opened networking opportunities with people I would not normally have a level of access to share ideas and thoughts.”
